The Tamiya Sport tuned 540 motor has become a standard in the sanctioned Tamiya races for electric sedans. It offers the simplicity of the standard 540 motor included in most Tamiya r/c kits, but gives added performance. This motor has become THE motor to run in the Tamiya M03 Mini Cooper cars, so I decided to try one in my Mini Cooper. Installing it in the Mini is as simple as unplugging the stock motor, removing it and putting the Sport tuned into the car and plugging in the leads. This motor is non-rebuildable with a sealed endcap so you run it till it wears out, no brushes to replace. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the nice little bump in performance my Mini gained with the installation of this motor. It was both faster off the line and had a notable increase in top end speed. The best part was I didn't see any noticeable decrease in run times compared to the stock 540 kit motor. If you are looking for a non-rebuildable motor as an easy upgrade to your stock 540 motor powered r/c kit, I would recommend this motor as a place to start.
